An additional thought on this specific delivery: Leo understands 'forte' (strength in volume) and 'pianissimo' (soft in volume). This is a technical skill practiced mostly by musically-educated professionals, and rarely from a self-taught musician. This is one of the attributes which makes Leo Kottke an elite favorite among music fans and other professional musicians alike. He understands the 'subtlety' of volume and executes it in a class well above his peers. Keep On, Leo - we're listening!
Have you EVER heard ANY guitarist absolutely smash a fret-board like this? With rhythm? I think not. Hell, Jerry Reed would be impressed. You're watching a man vs. guitar in this vid. Appreciate it - you won't find this anywhere else on Youtube. Or with any other artist. Leo Kottke is supreme.
@dayodan1 (and plunk52o, a kudos to you) - You definitely get the picture my friend! I've been listening to Leo as long as you have and still find it difficult to find a reference point for his work. Mr. Kottke may have a birth certificate from Minnesota, but it's not the US Minnesota you, I or any other of us knows about. I hope you've seen him in person as we have here in Tucson. His humor and human philosophy is almost as good as his finger-board work. I think he's an American Treasure.
Most of us can scarcely believe his right-hand picking style and left-hand finger-board fret-work even when we see it live, or on Youtube (and I've seen him 'live' in Tucson) . We almost think we're hearing two guitarists on this particular piece ('AirProofing'), but it's just Leo Kottle, alone - and fabulous like he always is. He's one of the best finger-board/singer/guitarist artists in the world - and from Minnesota. We Americans are extremely lucky to have him as one of our own!
