Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals' head and neck surgeon, David M. Cognetti, MD narrates this video of Dawn Hilarczyk's transoral robotic surgery to remove a benign tumor of the parapharyngeal space space -- an area tucked deep behind the jawbone and adjacent to the back of the throat. The robotic-assisted procedure enabled Dr. Cognetti to remove the tumor without needing to move the young woman's jawbone while protecting critical nearby structures including the carotid artery.
