An epistolary novel written by a niece and her aunt, THE GUERNSEY LITERARY AND POTATO PEEL PIE SOCIETY tells the story of an unlikely group of people who came to read and discuss books when their island was taken over by the Nazis during World War II.

  • I can't help wondering, have any of these people who have left their comments here, read GB Edward's brilliant "The Book of Ebenezer Le Page?? Now there is a real authentic book about Guernsey!! Complete with real authentic Guernsey names. Anyone not yet read it, has a real treat in store, and having done so, can then reapraise this one. If that doesn' t put this book into true perspective, nothing will!!

  • I LIVE IN GUERNSEY, I REALLY HOPE THEY MAKE A FILM OF THIS BOOK!

  • Local name - Eben?

Ramsey isn't a particularly Guernsey name - it is my name and I'm an Englishman living on Guernsey!

  • I'm reading this book for my college writing class!

  • is there a film or is there going to be a film

  • I can't get enough of Guernsey Books being a Guernsey Girl but now in Australia, thank you for sharing, I will be doing my utmost to buy a copy...

  • Whilst I really enjoyed reading this book, it really bothered me that none of the characters in it had proper local names. All the author had to do was pick up the phone book to see what the most common local names are. I was hoping to see a Le Page, Falla or a Brehaut, and a bit more genuine local flavour.

I'm really only nitpicking though, as I am a local Guernsey girl and I notice these things :)

  • I just finished reading this book today and I can't wait to go back to page one and read it all over again. I loved it because it made me laugh and cry and I cared about the characters. The fact that it was written in the form of letters to each other was different but what a nice change from normal chapters.

  • Maravilloso libro. Los personajes son tiernos y divertidos. Muy original debido a su presentación como libro epistolar. Estoy deseando ir a Guernsey.
