@JeeRaph sorry for the late reply. I guess a good example of what I'm getting at is let's say we are playing chess. We all know that chess is played with all the pieces available at the start which allows for all possible strategies. Now the UFC wants to put chess on the TV and make a profit from it and everyone knows that ratings=profit. So for mainstream acceptability (higher ratings) the UFC took the bishops and the rooks out of the game. It's just not proper chess anymore.
@13expose13 I thought I did. Am I misunderstanding you somewhere? You can't kick the head of a downed opponent. I was responding to "lay n pray" being a product of US MMA. It's a tactic and if fighters just became more well rounded and learned to sprawl, they could negate that tactic in a big way. I wouldn't argue that the fights are more boring sometimes but I think it's what it takes to win fights.
@JeeRaph I agree to some aspect but I have to disagree that US MMA is real MMA. Taking away the leg strikes to grounded opponents changes the dynamic of the fight dramatically in many ways. It seems to have spawned the often mentioned 'lay n pray' tactic. It's kind of watered down MMA.
@13expose13 It's a competition to win fights. I promise you if there was another way to optimally win fights, these fighters would employ that strategy. The way fights are right now is the way that wins the most fights. You can argue that K1 is more entertaining but you can't argue that American MMA isn't true MMA. Fighter's fight to win. Change the objective or the scoring if you want.
@JeeRaph Fighters should aim to finish, not aim to survive. That's just another way that the US has killed real MMA. MMA in the US isn't really MMA anymore, wrestling with some striking is a better description these days.
@13expose13 I actually think he can. 5 rounds is a lot and Diaz is more prepared than anyone for that. I don't fault GSP for not finishing fights for the very fact it's 5 rounds. 25 minutes is too long to go full force.

@JeeRaph Do you understand what I'm talking about?

@13expose13 Learn to sprawl. Too many strikers lack the ability to sprawl. If you can't sprawl, you don't really deserve to win.

@HardjumperR The funny thing is; I'm hoping Diaz smashes GSP's face in. At least we'll get to see a GSP fight actually get finished.
