You make a good point: I listen to some modern music that is exceptional, but unfortunately, you have to wade through so much shit to find it you feel slightly dirty at the end. And I must admit, I do enjoy that smug feeling of superiority you get when you realise your musical palette is so much wider than the drones who drink up anything Simon Cowell offers them. Some good modern musicians include Richie Kotzen, Joe Bonamassa, Black Stone Cherry etc.

@Bastiat90 I understand and agree completely the dislike of modern commercial music, but there is so much innovating music being released in lesser known places. If Zappa would've made his music in this day and age, he never would be so well known, no huge record label would've given him a chance. He was hardly played on the radio throughout his carreer, that gives you an idea of how many talent today is just ignored. The talent exists but it's the lack of a broad platform for them.

NOOOO!!! WHY DOES IT STOP AT 9:25!!!!

@Bastiat90 I agree, there are still some of us out there that aren't "only in it for the money", I saw Frank 5 times in the UK in the late 70's early 80's - amazing, he's been a major influence on me since. Check out my my Zappa inspired original track - Devil Monkey Shoes

We need more Frank Zappa's today. Inventive, intelligent people making music rather than ephemera for money. Nobody innovates today; it's just the same formula ad nauseum. Listen to the winner's song on a talent show and I guarantee it will adhere to the following template... it will be a slow paced ballad. After the second chorus, it will move up a key, a choir will be introduced and the string section will kick in.

definitely hear the similarities with john mclaughlin

i saw him in 79 ,80 and again in 82 and he simply blew the crowd away . his ease of makinh that guitar sing along with his brillance of using so many odd sounds in an attempt to build a miracle right on stage before your eyes and then to make it all so simple too ! his music will live forever while others will wither away .
He's sick as hell with cancer and hasn't touched a guitar in three years and still He's the best. God damn I miss the man. I would cut off my toe for just one more solo.
