The continued detention of a Chinese fishing boat captain by Japanese authorities has sparked more protests. Activsts in Hong Kong tried to stage a sit-in at the Japanese Consulate as they demanded the release of Zhan Qixiong. And as Jonathan Josephs reports his arrest could damage diplomatic relations between the two countries.

There is an American military facility on the island which they built while Japan was occupied by America.

America returned the island to Japan along with Okinawa.

That means the island has been recognized as a part of Japan even before WWII.

@powerofthroughts I will consider the arguments that China already had taken the Spratly Islands that are too close to the Philippines and some portion proximate to Vietnam. It would be better to submit the documents to substantiate its claim (not here) because in the absence of proof, it would be improper for China to take that islands too far away from the Mainland, it is absurd since the Islands are too proximate to the Philippines to claim by anyone under UNCLOS law.

You really don't know China history. I am so sorry for your poor knowledge!. Look at China maps of all China dynasties you will the the truth. China has 5,000 years of history. Guangdong, Guangxi & Hainan island did not belong to China since 5,000 years ago. Many Chinese are very poor knowledge! During 5,000 years of Vietnam history, VN was invaded by China, French and Japan. During 5,000 years of history, "Great" China was invaded by 14 small countries!
