Can I make it clear to all. The Sones lost the copyright to all their pre 1971 songs a long time ago due to poor business dealings. The legal action was bought by the owners of the copyright which is ABCKO, not Mick & Keith. Mick & Keith do not own the copyright of this song - they get a very small royalty as the composers. Same as Paul McCartney, he does not own the copyright to nearly all of his Beatle songs. Michael Jackson's estate does

I always thought 'Oh weren't the Verve hard done by' because I THOUGHT the problem was they'd just expanded a short instrumental break.... and Bittersweet symphony is one of my all time favourites; but Its the first time I've listened to this, and it seems the Verve lifted it more or less whole

Sad that Jagger/Richards got full royalties and credit for The Verve's use of the song when the song clearly owes just as much to Oldham and David Sinclair's re-working and orchestral arrangement of it.
