Just saw the band last night and Joe is still in the band, as a the lead singer, even did some of the same jokes as Jerry tells in this video. That's Steve on the piano.

The Hollies carried on in 1972 without original lead singer Allan Clarke. I saw them at the time and they were great. It is possible for a band to lose a front-line member and still be excellent.
