All I see are excuses for Doohan as to why he didnt win in 91-93. He has two excuses and only 2 excuses, and they are Wayne Rainey and Kevin Schwantz. Period. Points don't lie
@Danybrown34 First off, go to Wikipedia and read up on all three. Secondly, please find a suitable dictionary and read up the meaning of 'debut'. While you are there, you may also find the meaning of the terms 'opinion' and 'fact'. I was thinking there would be some imaginative discussion here but apparently there is just pointless subjective claim being SHOUTED around. I rest my case, my friend. Cheers.
@Danybrown34 I am afraid you are the one in the wrong, my friend. Kevin Schwantz made his 500cc debut in the Dutch TT (on an RG500 for Rizla-Suzuki) in 1986. Look it up (YouTube does not allow hyperlinks, sorry). I find it funny though how you claim something arbitrarily and insist that it's not your own opinion but a fact. I guess you are still lost in the sensationalism and nostalgia of the old school but facts are facts - Doohan rules.
@Danybrown34 Sure, I'll give you more than that, buddy:
Wayne Rainey debuted 1988 (500cc), last GP 1993, titles 1990, 91, 92.
Kevin Schwantz debuted 1986, last GP 1995, title in 1993.
Mick Doohan debuted 1989, last GP 1999, titles 1994, 95, 96, 97, 98.
So Doohan debuted 3 years after Schwantz and a year after Rainey and was en route to championship in 1992 before that horrific crash and then won 5 titles in a row. Teething problems on his Honda barred, Doohan was the best amongst the three.
Doohan didn't have the big band engine in '91 & only just missed the championship. It was tyres on that occasion that won Rainey the championship. Mick & all the other Honda riders had huge problems with the front tyres that season, wereas Kevin & Wayne had tyres that stuck to the road like glue. So many would say that tyres were Wayne's trick to beat Mick that year. It is a joke to say that they were both "way" better than Mick. But you're entitled to your opinion.
sorry to burst both of your bubbles, but Doohan was very dominant over both Schwantz and Rainey before they retired. He just didn't win the championship because of tyres in '91 & his crash in '92 (when even rainey admitted he was lucky, as Doohan had it in the bag). All great riders though...beat the snot out of Rossi I reckon :)
