Director of Music and the Arts at Trinity Wall Street, Julian Wachner, and his long time friend and composer, Elena Ruehr discuss the upcoming Trinity Choir concert, Poetry as Muse: Music by Elena Ruehr.

For its season finale, the Trinity Choir and NOVUS NY, The Contemporary Music Ensemble of Trinity Wall Street, present the Music of Elena Ruehr, a contemporary composer who draws inspiration from the rhythms of the language of poetry. "Cricket, Spider, Bee," with text by Emily Dickinson, paints a naturalistic cycle in three movements. "Gospel Cha Cha" and "In Time of Silver Rain" both draw text from Langston Hughes poems. Averno is an 11-part cantata based on poetry by Louise Glück. And "Rain Down," uses minimal text by Mary Ellen Solt, an American concrete poet. Soloists include Stephen Salters, baritone, for whom Ruehr wrote some of this music, and Marguerite Krull, soprano.
