Equine Advocates' President, Susan Wagner welcomes Bobby II, a former New York City carriage horse who was rescued from slaughter to Safe Home Equine Rescue & Sanctuary on June 30, 2010. Equine Advocates first had him shipped to an equine hospital where he was examined and checked out before his arrival at the sanctuary. The vet report states that he is lame in his right front limb at a trot, but we are confident that with lots of TLC he will recover completely over time. This wonderful horse, affectionately referred to by EA staff as "Bobby Segundo," will spend the rest of his life being retired and turned out in the company of other horses - quite a departure from the unnatural conditions under which he was previously forced to live. An Equine Advocates supporter who came to meet Bobby, fell in love with him on the spot and decided to fully sponsor him. To learn more about Equine Advocates Horse Sponsorship Program and Bobby's rescue, including the New York Times and Rural Intelligence articles, please visit www.equineadvocates.org.
Hooray for Equine Advocates for helping horses and for telling it like it is! So wonderful that Bobby II will have a loving home that he deserves. I am sure that he was confused, being able for probably the first time, to roll around on the grass and play. Thank you! Wonderful collaborative work by the Coalition to Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages (NYC), Friends of Animals, and Equine Advocates.

Thank you Susan for giving Bobby II sanctuary! I pity the other carriage horses being forced to work over 9 hrs. and double shifts in New York city. If Bobby II was so neglected, imagine it must be the same for the other carriage horses. THANK YOU to The Coalition to Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages, banhdc.org for securing his freedom, and for both Banhdc.org and Friends of Animals, friends of animals.org to raise the funds!

What a beautiful horse. Yay Bobby II. Shame on the City of NY turning a blind eye to this horror - being responsible for sending many horses to slaughter each year. This is an abusive trade . Please do not take a carriage ride when in NYC. There are many other things for tourists to see that do not involve the abusive of animals.

I'm sitting here, weeping...this is so wonderful. What a beautiful, sweet horse...it's a miracle that his heart wasn't hardened by all the abuse and neglect he suffered before Equine Advocates got him. Bobby II must be a truly special horse. Equine Advocates has an amazing mission, their kindness and love for equines knows no bounds. Please support Equine Advocates and their mission of love...I'm a fan, indeed.
