An increasing number of states and school districts are using system-wide collaborations to boost teaching and learning through National Board Certification, related programs and National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs). The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) invited policymakers, business leaders and educators to Capitol Hill to discuss how these approaches can impact federal education policy.
"Throughout the country, National Board Certification is being used in transforming teaching and learning, raising student achievement and helping to improve our nation's schools," said Joseph A. Aguerrebere, NBPTS president and chief executive officer. "At a time when methods to improve teacher effectiveness are being debated, today's briefing will help broaden the discussion of how best practices of the National Board fit into successful school-wide reform efforts and the federal implications that can follow."
The discussion showcased four reports that highlight how states and districts are successfully using National Board Certification to advance effective teaching.
