Rendan: Quartet for Two is a 2001 film, starring Naoto Takenaka (who also directed) and Yuki Amami. This bizarre movie follows the life of a nuclear family heading quickly for a meltdown. For more info: http://www.bampfa.berkeley.edu/film/FN13822
Minako plays Brahms' Hungarian Dance No. 1 with Mari, then finds herself getting belatedly emotional (about her family troubles) at an inopportune time. This is only one of the few times in the movie where Minako's vulnerable (and sympathetic) side is revealed. The way the scene is executed, it's weird, strangely funny and sad all at the same time.
