Chapter 10 in my continuing Superhero Film series.

Look up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Richard Donner's 1978 big budget film 'Superman'.

With a cast consisting of Marlon Brando, Gene Hackman, Glenn Ford, Ned Beatty, Valerie Perrine, Jackie Cooper, Margot Kidder and some guy by the name of Christopher Reeve, can it actually deliver the promotional tagline and make audiences believe a man can fly?

This is part one of a two-part review.

  • Epic!! The beSt iN the World... The Best iN the Galaxy!!!!!!1

  • reeve was and is the best

  • According to Tom Mankiewicz, Brando had not read the entire script of Superman.

He read his lines as he filmed to keep it fresh. He confessed to Tom that as

they were filming, he read the script. Brando remarked: This is a ******* valentine.

  • I first watched this movie when I was 11 and I absolutely loved it! To this day no superhero movie really even comes close for me. In 2008 I went to New York and visited the building that stood in for the Daily Planet in the movie, you know the lobby with the big globe in the middle, and shot some video which you can watch in my youtube page if you like.

  • The first half up till the appearance of Otis was great. People applauded after the opening credits when I saw it.

  • @spideyhaswebshooters Troll much?

  • I had two minor quibbles with the movie. 1. Metropolis in the comics is supposed to be a substitute for Cleavland the hometown of the character's creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster and 2. The reversing the world ending, that just made absolutely no sense from looking at the comics or from a scientific standpoint.

  • Great review. But "Can You Read My Mind" was the defining moment of Lois and Superman - and the entire movie series.

  • Original Screen Lois Lane at 3:57?! Noelle Neil.
