We've started a TEFL social network where we are trying to build a community of TEFL teachers around the world to meet and share experiences and tips. If anyone is interested take a look at tefl-me.com. It covers lots of areas and has a blog, forum groups individual profiles and a map to indicate your location in the world to help you meet other TEFL teacher when you are on the other side of the world. We have a group relating to Korea including discussions about first timers in korea & culture.

Teaching English in Korea is not necessarily cool. There is a strong chance you can get screwed over by your employer, and the government won't care. Now, mind you, if you have a good employer like he did, they will pay you every month and on time. You can save a lot of money as he said. It's better to work for a public school. The salary is more like 2.2 million won starting, I would say right now if not more. I have not checked lately.

Hey BodhiOceans thanks for posting this video. I'm heading off to Jeju-do in a month or so to teach and it's great to hear about the experiences that other G.E.T.s have been having.
I'm glad there's no weed there (hate the stuff), it definitely sounds like a nice place to be. How did you find the local level of spoken English? Is it a big barrier to communication or are most people fluent enough to be comprehensible?

Man, someone could bring seeds over and grow your own happy smoke. The korean police probably wouldn't even know what it was. lol
-
@ihahahayou HAHAHA. Americans his age, like me, most likely won't be able to depend on S.S. anyway by the time we retire because we won't get nearly enough to cover cost of living.
-
hey thanks for the info, sounds like your having a great time. What motorcycle did you get? and how much to buy one there? i've tried to google but i can't find any prices, thanks.

Hey man great video. :) I've been thinking about doing this after I get out of college, but I'm still debating where I want to teach abroad. I originally thought Japan which is the usual choice I'd say for people in general. Uhh. But Jeju Island is a vacation spot, is it still ok living there with all the tourists? Well technically you are "kind of" a tourist lol. But you know what I mean.. Take care, and good luck! :)
