Angular momentum is a physical quantity, that occurs at rotation and circulation of objects. We calculate it as a product of the moment of inertia and its angular velocity vector. With arms wide open while the moment of inertia is big and the angular velocity is small. When we pull arms to the body, the moment of inertia reduces, but the angular momentum stays the same and the angular velocity rises and so rises also the frequency of rotation. This trick is used by ice skaters when they perform pirouettes. This is physics experiment for science project.

Vrtilna količina je fizikalna količina, ki nastopa pri kroženju in vrtenju teles. Izračunamo jo kot zmnožek vztrajnostnega momenta telesa in kotne hitrosti. Ko imamo pri vrtenju široko razprti roki je vztrajnostni moment največji, kotna hitrost je majhna. Ko roki skrčimo, se vztrajnostni moment močno zmanjša, zaradi ohranitve vrtilne količine pa močno naraste kotna hitrost in s tem frekvenca vrtenja. Ta 'trik' uporabljajo umetostni drsalci, ko delajo pirueto.
