I Still have one, Opel though, the same as Astra Mk1 GTE :)

I had a 5 door estate one of these a few years back, with the 1.6 engine which was supposed to have 90bhp. It really was nippy though. Shame rust took it to the scrappers at 23 years old. Great car, iirc all that ever broke on it when I had it was the alternator, and I got one for a tenner from the scrappy. Best of all though was that the car was free!

I learned to drive in one of these, it was a 1200 saloon in white with the round headlights. Kept it for several years and it did over 160,000 miles so was pretty good apart from rust which got it in the end.

Pity these cars fell too bits with rust.

Strange how the saloon and hatch versions looked the same, only difference was where the hinges on the boot were.

My grandfather bought a brand new Opel Kadett 1.6 diesel back in 1983. and the damn thing is still working!!! :D
Maybe it lacks all the cool electronics and whatnot, time did it's work on the body, but the car is going like it was bought yesterday!
6-7 litres per 100km ! Yeah!
