I'm sorry... But what is the difference of this horse between all the other fallen racehorses. Barbaro was a good horse,yes, but why treat him differantly? He had the chance to live the rest of his days in peace, and in the comfort of his home. Most fatalitys are sudden and painful. It makes me mad how people call him the greatest horse of all time. There was plenty of better horses who hadn't died.

@queenluciaa no need to apologize for your difference in opinion. the reason everyone became so involved in barbaro's death was simple. he was america's horse. no different than smarty jones really. he won the derby after overcoming some pretty difficult challenges in his formative years and most every american was rooting for him to win the triple crown. i absolutely agree that he wasn't the greatest horse of all time, but there's something to be said for being america's horse.

there is a life size statue/memorial of this horse in front of the main gate at churchill downs to honor him and damn does he deserve it

it was so traumatic what he went through

but he was so calm with all those people around. i think he knew they were going to help him as much as they could

@MrBeautifulloser Your words are the most meaningful, To think he was allowed to live and have a chance to live out his life was the hope anyone had at the time; only to succumb to what has become his tragedy. I think the thing we all identify with most is that he stirred our emotions, squeezed our hearts and gave us hope, even if only for a short while. Many other horses have fared worse or similar, and we miss them just the same. they gave what they had. & there's honor in that.
