I think you're missing the point. The story of Kate and Sam is a statement on racism and the heartbreak the injustice of the era caused.

the ending of the film is very exciting. Watch it by yourself, there are so many things, which can't get explained.
But I can tell you, that the police comes in the end, and the boss got arrest. If I was you, I would watch, it's a so good ending
