how do you ride the rails? i know its a stupid question but for some reason i can't with the zero gravity game.

You need the upgrade where you can grind. You upgrade by collecting rings. Some boards can't do so, but some can. Once you have the upgrade, jump right before you approach the rail and you should grind along it.
