Bald Eagle Premature Fledging

http://gregjoder.wordpress.com. Not the best video, but it happened so quickly: Our eaglets are almost 11 weeks old and we expected them to fledge soon, but not in this manner. Eaglet 1 slipped from the nest and grabbed on to the side of the nest with her talons and hung upside down for a brief period before falling into the water below. We checked on her right away and she was perched on low-lying branches just above the water. By the next day she was perched a bit higher, then flew 200' further into the mesquite and landed safely, perched on a nice high branch. Eaglet 2 simply sat and watched the whole ordeal. We expect eaglet 2 to fledge more gracefully in the next day or so...
