On June 22, U.S. Army First Lieutenant Ehren K. Watada became the first commissioned officer to publicly refuse deployment to the unlawful Iraq War and occupation.
For the first time since 1965, the military is prosecuting an objector for his opinions. He faces over eight years in prison - over six years for First Amendment speech alone!

  • I just don't see how, just because you're for the war, you're labeled as a "Troop Supporter."

You can support the troops and be against the war, as well. The two are mutually exclusive.

Also... Watada's right. When you're sworn in, you swear to uphold and defend the constitution, first and foremost.

Just remember: our President and our appointed officials are not The United States of America. The United States of America is the Constitution. Plain and simple.

  • To hell with this joke of a war. Mr. Watada saw that this war was a cooked up story and he did the right thing. It's easy to compare this war to vietnam. Anybody who fails to recognize this I hate to say you are living in a dream world and are failing to see the big picture. And it angers me that our soldiers r dying for these web of lies. And on top of everything else alot of them who come back wounded have to fight tooth and nail to get the benefits they so rightfully earned.

  • I am an Oath Keeper and I swear to uphold and protect The Constitution of the United States of America against enemies, foreign AND domestic.

I am in service for the American People, not the government.

    The government shredded The Constitution,

The government lied to The People,

The government should stop a dictator who starts illegal wars,

    The government has been hijacked,

I will not take orders from criminals,

    I will not tolerate tyranny,

    Give me Liberty

    or give me death

  • @skeletonbite Agreed, the US was built upon brutality, hypocrasy, greed and lies. It "defends" itself by attacking whoever has a resource that it wants.

  • @undeadpresident yeah or does he realize that the US is an illegitimate nation built on treaty violations with the Indians? The illegitimacy of this war has deep roots.

  • For those of you who "support the troops," do you support ALL troops hands down? What about the ones committing atrocities? Serious question. Like do you support Pfc. Steven D. Green for example?

  • @imsno0zin i agree with you and see the irony in it see it like this to support the bullet you must also see the gun that fires the bullet you dont have to like the gun or the bullet but both are responsible for the overall cause and effect

  • Alone the fact that the U.N. (which laws even the mighty, mighty US is bound to, no wait: SHOULD BE BOUND TO) didn't grant permission to the war on Iraq makes it a war crime.

So it's clear that not every soldier can deceide whether a war is right or not, but when even international law refuses to accept what Bush was trying to make them believe, it's not only a moral obligation to refuse to fight an unjust war, it's perfectly in order with international law!

  • @imsno0zin Absolutely right, except nothing about the war is unconstitutional. It is absolutely difficult moral ground, but if we rely on every soldier and officer to decide whether or not they believe in the war when such a course is chosen this debilitates the capabilities of our armed forces. This is why once somebody swears into the military, they are not permitted to refuse orders unless they are expressly illegal.

  • Does Watada realize that 9/11 was an inside job yet?

  • @mandaJt You ever serve in war ? This clown is a punk. You like punks. He ought to lead you into into bear country with no rifle.

  • @mandaJt You ever serve in war ? This clown is a punk. you like punks. This damn LT was an officer. He is a joke.
