Part 7. Copyright BBC Films and UK Film Council. 2005 Film starring Hugh Dancy, John Hurt, and Clare-Hope Ashitey. I OWN NOTHING.
Based on a true story. An exhausted Catholic priest (Hurt) and a young idealistic English teacher (Dancy) finds themselves caught in the 1994 Rwandan genocide. They must now choose whether to stay with the thousands of Tutsis about to be massacred or to flee for safety.
@LordWellington15 ummmm Hutus were killing tutsi not the other way around -___-

@char121214 It was the governments of the UN who were busy arguing about what genocide meant. The actual soldiers of the peacekeeping force on the ground had very few options, and they behaved commendably given the circumstances.

@EbsNhexz who gives a shit about the rules its simple they had the chance to help but they didn't because they were to busy argueing what genocide means(sorry 4 poor spelling) lordwelington15 is right UN says "they r peace keepers" peace keepers my a**
char121214 3 months ago
@EbsNhexz Exactly. Do you see what Nato and the UN are? Just another organization trying to rule the world.

@LordWellington15 If he had fired upon anyone in a way which would have violated the rules of engagement he would have been tried as a murderer. The UN peacekeepers were some of the very few people within the organisation showing heroics. It is the governments of the UN which were cowards here. If the outnumbered Peacekeepers had started firing upon the militia, both they and the people in all the refugee camps they were guarding would have been overrun and hacked to bits.

I agree with LordWellington15. Yes, it isn't simple, but the guy could have done something. The UN, despite mostly having the best of motives, is a gutless time-wasting bureaucratic organisation. It could be so much more!

@LordWellington15 or a Sharpe film. BTW who was running away like a "coward"? Have you actually watched this film? Have you ever been in a situation remotely like Rwanda 1994 have you even been to Rwanda?

@LordWellington15 The Hutu extremists were slaughtering the Tutsis and Hutu moderates.
The UN was outnumbered, out gunned, and had little in the way of vehicles. Whilst some of the militia would have melted away with some armed resistance the Rwandan Army would have been more difficult. There was no will from the top to stop the Genocide either in the UN or France. It may be better if you read a little about the history there, and also understand that real life warfare isn't like a video game

@xA6fhYZ4 Out gunned!?!? Are you feckin nuts or something!?!?! Have even looked into this event. The UN had much more advanced weapons, and vehicles. The Tutsi had machetes and clubs, the best they had were AK-47's and the guns they got from European soldiers, many were still using WWII weaponry. He could have saved the lives of thousands of Hutu, but instead he ran like a coward.

@LordWellington15 Are yes the voice of the armchair general. It's easy making tough comments from safety isn't it? They, the UN, were outnumbered and out gunned. Oh yes and a Commander thinks of those under him, and not just his own personal ego, if he's a real soldier. Maybe if more UN troops were there with a wider mandate for force perhaps. And who hampered this, which countries vetoed and filibustered?
