Éste grupo es fantástico, te traslada a Escocia en cada una de sus canciones.

I know that at the time the norwegian vikings came to Shetland and the Orcneys, the picts were already gone...

Bought the CD Big Wheel when I sailed to Shetland in 1987, Love the music....

@wattsite What eveidence do you have that the Picts came from norhern Europe wattsite? I always thought the direction that they arrived in was a bit of a mystery,

@PtbaScot II was talking about picts who certainly dont share ethnicity wit the gaels who came from spain and the picts from northern european countries. You are half of both your parents like the scots are half gaels and half picts but neither one of the two groups.
The scots are the ethinicity created by the fusion of gaels and picts. I credit you from picking out my mistake "The scots and gaels were entirely different ethnic groups " The gael and picts fuse together to make scots.
-
@wattsite The Scots and Picts were the same ethnic group. Studies done on DNA have shown that the Scots and picts were identical. Unlike mainland Europe which saw many waves of people come and go, giving a large mix of diferent ancestral groups, the British Isles and especially Ireland and Scotland had far fewer incomers. The Scots are one of the most homogenous groups an the world. Language and ethnicity don't always go hand in hand.

Enyoy the music, we in Australia are being both oppressed and assimulated by the Americans (yanks) god bless them they mean well.
After all it is our own fault we watch and listen to the endles drivel the comes from thet fair land.
Perhaps we would have been better off if the world was flat
-
@cameoj You are almost right.
According to the sorces I have read (I have a degree in scottish arts and culture)
the picts were probably not oppressed by the gaels but because of the massive expansion of gaelic they would have found it more easy to blend in to gaelic culture and adopt the language than continue with theirs at which time was already collapsing.
The scots and gaels were entirely different ethnic groups until the formation of the kingdom of Alba which obviously spoke gaelic.

The skies above London Are neither clear nor dark The need to be far from the crowded river Neither the great candle of daylight Nor the stars of the night can be seen The need to be far from the crowded river
In this city that never sleeps there is stillness, no quiet The need to be far from the crowded river
Footsteps keep moving The river in full flood The need to be far from the crowdedriver
The relentless wheels Keep turningwithout pause The need to be farfrom the crowded river

Irish or scottish gaelic - Gaelic is simply a wonderful language, and Runrig and Donnie Munro do a great labour to keep it alive and bring it to the world.
