Here is a performance of the Theme to Midnight Cowboy, originally done by Toots Thielemans, from the movie with Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight. I am using the Hands Free Chromatic Harmonica and my Taylor 812. I try to get quiet at the end and the windsavers start sticking, so it's a little anticlimactic . . .

  • OK, I have a new version up that is accurate--but in listening to this, even tho it is wrong, it still has a certain charm, so I am going to leave it up.

But bear in mind, the chords are wrong, and the melody is wrong!

Guess that actually makes it a different song . . .

  • Good work soldier!

  • Thanks--I thought it was OK until I recently listened to a recording of Toots doing it with a symphony here on YouTube--

I learned it from a sequence I found on the internet that seems to be WRONG--

so now I need to post the new version--stay tuned.

    Gary

  • This is a Hohner 270 harmonica, tuned like the Meisterklasse (starts on G, but tuned to C), but bebop tuned (the first of the two C blow notes is tuned to Bb).

    Thanks!

  • Great work Gary. Can't be easy love the tune and everything that surrounds it. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.....

  • oh, by the way, you play amazingly good!

  • lol i love this song, im a beginner in harmonica and i was wondering if i can play(at least the chorus) on a 10 hole diatonic harmonica using overblows and overdraws, so is it possible?

  • very nice, what model is this harmonica

  • 1. The movie stars Dusitn Hoffman and Jon Voight, not Robert Redford

    2. How did you get the tabs for this? Or find out the tune to it, or whatever, and can you share?

    3. Great job. I thought the tune was oringally from John Berry though?

    You did an excellent job...
