Your '48 CC 22' Utility had white sides because mahogany was in scarce supply so other woods were used that did not take varnish well and Chris Craft painted them for a good looking finish. This is well documented in "The Legend of Chris Craft" by Rodengen (pg. 135).

Great series of videos Antique Boat Center! Keep up the good work.

  • Bow looks a bit like the Century Sea Maid...

  • My Dad had one that was called the "Thunder Bug" many.years ago. He lent it to a friend who tied it up too short at the dock, and it got swamped ! Nasty.

  • awesome boat

  • I have a 1948 u22 also.....White as the driven snow onn the sides. Mahogany top. SPecial series they made back then. This has been in my family since the show room floor in Walloon Lake Michigan. I am considrering selling it but it is a very painfull decision. I had a West System installed whis ddecreased weight of course and nno more soaking. Added 12-15 mph to it! Any one want to talk me into it?

  • ...incredible.
