FOR FULL COMPARISON @ INSIDELINE.COM:

These are the heavy hitters. The big dogs. They're not playmakers or finesse artists and they don't dish out assists. If the 2010 Ford Shelby GT500 is Dick Butkus snuffing out a Jim Brown thrust up the middle, then the 2010 Hennessey Performance Engineering Chevy Camaro SS HPE550 is Lawrence Taylor with radar lock on Joe Theismann's right leg. And it's not just that they're powerful and merciless, but intentionally provocative and intimidating, too. On looks alone, either of these cars is enough to make the drivers of other machines cower like a three-legged Labradoodle.

They are, of course, muscle cars in the rawest, most vicious sense of the term. And they're quicker, faster, meaner and flat nastier than anything built back when Ol' Shel and Don Yenko were just guys. And not by a little bit either.

But which is the better beast? To find out, we drove these two all-Americans on the street, at our test track and on the Dynojet chassis dyno at MD Automotive in Westminster, California. Then we did some big smoky burnouts just to piss off the Sierra Club. By the time we were through, Greenpeace had threatened to blockade the Inside Line garage and the Obama administration was seriously considering a unilateral deployment of the fun police. Didn't matter. By then the tires were shot and we had our winner.

  • shut up idiot. everybody knows edmunds can't drive and they hate US cars.

The outgoing Mustang GT is in reality a sub 5-second car.

  • What are you talking about. This car is better looking and has more power. You are so full of shit saying that I tested the car with my "friends" and everyone hated it. You probably are a 8 year old kid who is not old enough to appreciate a good car when you see one.

  • everyone shut up its a great car you dont hav to be an expert in cars to know it...get over it ha

  • @e1853b you are very dumb..... a guy from muscle mustangs and fast fords pulled an 11.8 in the quarter with a stock gt500 no mods no tires. and it was only a 2010. If it was a 2011 it would,ve ran 11.7 or lower and the gt500 still costs less than both so why not put a pulley and a tune. i wouldnt ever consider getting a regular c6 corvette. I wouldve gotten the C6 Z06 or a ZR1 if i even wanted one.

  • @e1853b - Yeah, I watched the video, did you? How about reading comprehension? I said a GT500 with a pulley, tune and CAI will beat a stock Z06. Thats not bashing a stock Z06, it is almost complimenting it. I would love to see where to buy a new Vette for 35k? I suggest before you S#1+ talk you learn to properly address the facts and the comment you are addressing. Until then give your dad back the keys to the Vette.

  • @Georgenfla - Really because your country was most likely saved by fighting Americans in the past. Douchebag. Keep talking trash while you know there isn't an American standing around the corner waiting to feed you your teeth.

  • @e1853b - Your insane dude. A GT500 will smoke a vette and a GT500 with a pulley, tune and CAI will beat a factory Z06 hands down. I own one and have driven both. Please tell me where to get a Z06 for 35k?

  • First of all, I have a 2007 GT500, which stock has almost 50hp less than this car and there is no way that pedal is on the floor in this video. I can roll at 50mph in second gear and when I mash the gas it blows the tires away until third gear (Almost 75mph). First gear is worthless without a drag radial. Car went 11.86 with a blower pulley, tune and CAI. Paid 34k for the car. Lets see if we can find an import that runs in the 11s for 34k and doesn't sport a rainbow sticker from the factory.

  • Fixed it for ya.......

Haha, these cars are way too expensive for my income. I'll save my money and buy a 2000 Ford Mustang GT 2V 4.6L DOHC V8 that weighs 3,237 pounds without a driver. By the time I'd be done upgrading and modding it, believe me, it would besome Frankensteined piece of crap that has zero resale......

  • like, thats how it should be done. these rich boys can't touch american muscle!

  • ny is awesome.

  • @ryu1036 man that is a steal but thats to be expected in places like ny or california where there are a tone of shops. Here in Indianapolis lies the contradiction, sure the racing capital of the world, but it seems grass roots racing is expensive due to the lack of competing shops. I think ill come to NY. lol.
