Billy Gilman Pays Tribute to Mattie Stepanek on the 2010 MDA Telethon

Award-winning country artist Billy Gilman pays tribute to the late best-selling poet Mattie Stepanek on the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon on Sept. 6, 2010. Stepanek served as the Muscular Dystrophy Association's National Goodwill Ambassador from 2002 until his death in 2004 of mitochondrial myopathy. In 2003, Gilman recorded "Music Through Heartsongs," an album of Mattie's poetry.

Today Mattie would have turned 21. He inspired millions with his poetry and thoughts. Mattie was very special and still has an impact 7 years after his death.

Not only did he bring attention to Muscular Dystrophy but with his mom Jeni, who continues his work, he has inspired World Peace. Mattie remains that boy who will stay forever young in our hearts. He was beyond his years & lived life to the fullest despite the barriers.

Happy Birthday Mattie JT Stepanek. Play extra hard in heaven today.
