@TyreReviews Ok, I'll have a look, thx. I live in Germany & use winter tyres since 1990. The large block tread has almost no effect on grip unless the blocks are really far apart, which they aren't. When sipes were introduced in the late 70s along with softening compounds only then was there enough 'friction' grip. Over here winter tyres with less that 5mm tread (still a lot!) are discarded(!) as useless. Very deep snow then requires clawing i.e. chains (carried by everyone here).

only problem is that the tread shown here is not what makes a winter tyre work. Its the sipes within each tread block and the fact that the tyre is a blend of rubber and silica keeping the tyre soft to some -20 degrees. The sipes are not visible in this video at all. This must be a UK production where they are learning now as beginners what the continentals have been deploying for 20+ years. This video simply shows a totally normal tread that might as well be going through mud.

@trident3b Thanks for the comment - if you browse through our channel you'll see there are videos of both the siping and compounding of the tyre.
This video is demonstrating the tread pattern, which does actually have a huge affect on how the tyre performs in fresh snow. The tread pattern is designed to pack snow into the tread, which allows the tyre to use the "snow on snow" affect for grip which shouldn't be underestimated!
