In 2004 a devastating earthquake in Nias, Indonesia, killed over 1,000 people and rendered tens of thousands homeless, without means of support. A US$ 15 million ADB micro-credit program in Nias and nearby Aceh has helped impoverished families get back on their feet. The ADB-supported micro-credit program is modeled after Mohammed Yunus Grameen Bank. The program is giving women like Nur Arfah Tanjay the opportunity to create a better life for their families.
