I'm starting work on this Admiral 16" bakelite console set from around 1951. It uses the same 21B1 chassis as the tabletop set I just restored but it's an earlier production run. It also has lots of ugly old repairs and a few surprises.

  • I think that there were a lot of TV repairmen who should have considered another line of work, back in the 1950s there were a lot of fly by night repairmen who took a bad correspondance course under the G.I bill (or none at all) and went into the business. Even some that weren't fly by night really had no aptitude for troubleshooting and could never understand electrical theory, they were just parts changers who could barely work a tube tester, some are even online now.

  • @OlegKostoglatov Ya, no kidding. Whoever work on this set would have been better off removing all the bad stuff and replacing it properly!

  • Those white resistors look like british ones

  • @ekcoscott Could be - I've never seen ones like that before.

  • I just had a funny idea. Imagine someone in 60 years into the future from now. Trying to get a dusty old Iphone or Xbox360 to work again. Posting it on 3D-tube.

  • @conoba Ya, good luck to them :)

  • Sometimes I want to shoot UPS for damaging stuff!

  • Please upgrade your lighting

  • @RejectedManiac Hang on - you will soon ;)

  • @maynardcat Thanks, I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. I'm installing the new transformers right now. Then it's time for a power-up!

  • This Admiral was lucky to fall into your capable hands. It will be very interesting to see how it powers up. The detailed explanations of each step you go through is what I like. I have learned some things just from watching your videos.
