An animation of Jack Chick's Somebody Goofed by Syd Garon and Rodney Ascher. Somebody Goofed was our first animated movie, we found a Chick track and decided we would make a film about it and learn After Effects in the process. We tried to be faithful to the original, we didn't modify the text and used the original character drawings whenever possible, a couple of things were redrawn by Rodney for technical reasons. "Somebody Goofed" was created in 1998, it took us about 6 months I believe.

Bart Cheever from D-Film had these kind words to say about "Somebody Goofed";

"To me, Goofed was the Birth of a Nation of After Effects films, and was really the aesthetic blueprint for much of what you see on TV today. So many people have copied their cool 2D photo-animations, and their style is used so heavily today on VH1, E, MTV, and so on -- it's easy to forget how groundbreaking the film was. No one had ever really done anything like it before.

I loved the way Goofed is this rich moving collage of newsprint religious tracts, album covers (can you spot Paul's Boutique?), clips from 70's gangster films, cigarette ads from old magazines etc. To me, Goofed represented a whole new way of collaging various forms of media."

  • I like the animation - I'm repulsed by the message.

  • Oh no, somebody who thinks fairy tales are real thinks I'm a fool! What will I do?

    Notice how you didn't actually address what I said? Not only do you have to resort to random insults, but you have to quote your insults from scripture because you don't have enough independent thought to come up with your own. Lovely.

  • @gnorow the message is MEANT to stur your spirit up.!

  • Too damned funny. Thanks for sharing.

  • Good animation, poor subject matter. Jack Chick is a lunatic.

  • @mikabreto The music at the and is Beethoven's ninth symphony, second movement. It is a synthesized version performed by Wendy Carlos and is used in the film A Clockwork Orange. It's called Suicide Scherzo on the soundtrack and is played during the scene when Alex is tortured by the Writer and two reporters and throws himself out the window. Good choice of music, eh?!!!

  • This music is from the future? Aug 23, 2011 is still a ways off!

  • Its a shame that above average movie making skills were waisted on this crap.
