i also hate it when you can't hear your weapon. it's a little bug that valve needs to fix.

Actually this is how it goes.
type sv_cheats 1 then type in console thirdpersonshoulder, then it toggles thirdperson mode. but problem is with sv_cheats on it will ignore achievements.

it's a setting under the keyboard options, or you can add the "-console" parameter to the shortcut in steam.
