Installation by Charlie Hooker as part of the A Nod to Cage series accompanying an exhibition of John Cage's visual art at the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill on Sea from April to June 2011.

Galactic cosmic rays are partices emitted by the sun - they enter the atmosphere and pass through us from all angles. This piano is fitted with a sensor that detects passing cosmic rays and triggers the keyboard - what we hear is almost literally music of the spheres. It sounds a lot like Messiaen, as this short extract shows.
