It was a balmy Sunday morning on the crossroads of 5th Street and College ave. We all met up at 8:00 AM in front of the Panda Express. We headed towards our bus stop, route 62; unbeknownst to us we would make a discovery we didn't expect. In the suburban-industrial district of South Tempe, we stumbled upon a posse of skateboarders who were sure to rise to fame. These three children where set on a goal of mastering the art of skateboarding. The importance of this art form you ask? How about the fundamental creation of recreation, innovation, and self-expression through the world of skateboarding. The skate park was located on west side of Hardy, south of Carver Rd. The surrounding neighborhood was entirely constructed of cookie cutter homes, industrial offices, and an outdoor sports complex. The beginning of our discovery occurred whilst in route south to IKEA. We utilized the technique of visual observation to spot a group of nomadic homeless people smoking in the middle of the skate park, which in turn, eventually lead us to our discovery. No one in the entire group was familiar with the location of Hardy, let alone route 62. Initial impressions of the environment were uncomfortable. Many people within the group were unfamiliar with the public transportation system or one another. However, awkward emotions within the group lead to friendships, and impressions of unfamiliarity lead to an adventurous high while traveling along route 62. Within the first couple of miles the city of Tempe went from a metropolis, then a suburb, to an industrial region, and back again showing us the various forms of large scale cities. We no longer view the city of Tempe as a desert, but rather a melting pot of various design.
