Phish inducts Genesis to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2010

I've been a fan of Phish for 20 years and Genesis for nearly as long, so I was delighted to learn that Phish inducted Genesis into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this passed week. This is the edited version of the induction ceremony that was held on Monday. And although it doesn't do justice to Trey Anastasio's induction speech, it gives you a nice taste of the night and is nicely sized for youtube. This is Phish's performance of Watcher of the Skies. It actually opened up the entire ceremony. Great choice for an opening track. The eerie mellotron chords that begin this song opened Genesis concerts between 1972-74. I can only imagine what the audience was thinking when this song began.

Trey also talks about the influence Genesis had on bands like Radiohead and My Bloody Valentine. He goes into more depth on the Trespass and Selling England By the Pound albums, as well Anthony Phillips influence, Steve Hackett's innovative guitar playing and Phil Collins' drumming. The only thing I don't like about this video is the way they edited Trey's speech. Steve Hackett isn't even mentioned in this edit. And they cout out the best part when he says: "I'm guessing that most people in this room have never listened to Selling England by the Pound. You cannot buy a greatest hits album and understand what I'm talking about. But there are so many people who I am speaking for tonight who know EXACTLY what I'm talking about."

@joevach10 No,no you have it all wrong!! you are young so I will educate you! No artist performs at their induction into the hall of fame! The induction is a ceremony to pay tribute to the artist being inducted! When Van Halen were inducted Velvet Revolver performed Van Halen tunes as a tribute!! This is standard practice for any of the performing arts ceremonies!!!
