Authorities now put the official death toll from the Sichuan earthquake in China at more than 60,000 and fear it could reach 80,000.
Al Jazeera spoke with one of the first soldiers to arrive on the scene in Dujiangyan, near the quake's epicentre.
Here's his account of the relief operation.

'American award won't go to "terrorist supporting group".' I don't think that notion will change under current Bush adminstration.

The first person segment deserves a Pulitzer, as for the soldier he deserves a promotion.

Thanks AJE for another remarkable first person account. The attitude of this soldier is very kind and caring. It overturns much of the news we get in the US about China.
