In this http://www.artistshousemusic.org interview, Maggie Lange, an attorney and Professor of Music Business/Management at Berklee College of Music, explains how copyright term (that is, the duration for which a work remains under exclusive ownership) works, and sketches out some "fair use" exceptions to the five exclusive rights granted to copyright owners under law.

  • Check out the Press Pass Tv Video " Fair Use for Fair Play"

  • @GzusCriest In UK copies must be made by the RESEARCHER OR STUDENT himself

Quotes taken from Wikipedia, "Fair dealing" page deals with "Fair Use / Fair Dealing" for Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, United Kingdom and the United States

Just 'cause a copyright holder is a US citizen doesn't mean that US copyright law applies to that work regardless of where you copy it

You're always subject to local law first as long as there's no international treaties regarding the issue

  • British law (under the provisions of section 29 of the CDPA) DOES NOT RESTRICT THE AMOUNT of a copyrighted work that may be copied for the purposes of non-commercial research or private study TO A "REASONABLE PORTION" of the work OR TO SINGLE COPIES of the work, where the copies are made by the researcher or student himself

In the UK you can use any amount of MATERIAL/COPIES you see fit PROVIDED it is "for the purposes of non-commercial research or private study"

In UK you answer only to UK laws

  • @seansuth or you just apply for a mechanical license.

  • @seansuth i know right! like what's there to totally not to understand???

  • In other words, if it aint made by you, don't use it! What's so hard to understand?

  • She's saying that if you don't understand copyright law you need to hire a lawyer.

  • Life plus 70 years but not for everything, right?

  • can someone please tell me wat she's talking about? cuz i watched it and i have no idea wat she's saying :(
