Lt. Andrew Richard Nuttall was killed Dec. 23, 2009, during a foot patrol in an area southwest of Kandahar City. Nuttall is the 134th Canadian soldier to die in Afghanistan since the mission began in 2002.
Lt. Nuttall died alongside a soldier from the Afghan National Army, said the Department of National Defense.
They were patrolling near the Village of Nakhonay in the Panjwaii District, 25 km south of Kandahar City.
Nuttall was a member of the 1st Battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, based in Edmonton.
The explosion also injured an Afghan interpreter, said the department.
"At this time, our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of our fallen Canadian and Afghan comrades," the department wrote in a release.
"The commitment and sacrifice of our soldiers and their loved ones are helping to make a difference in the lives of the people of Kandahar Province."
Nuttall is the 134th Canadian soldier to die in Afghanistan since 2002, and the 28th this year.
"Andrew had an infectious personality and always had a smile on his face, attributes which the soldiers under his command appreciated when times were tough," said Lt.-Col. Walsh, Lieut. Nuttall's commanding officer.
"Andrew came to Afghanistan because he honestly believed that he could make a difference to the people of Afghanistan, and he demonstrated that every time he went on patrol," said Gen. Menard.
"It is a harsh reminder of the enormous sacrifices our soldiers and their loved ones have agreed to make so that stability and security can be re-established in a dangerous region of the world," Gov. Gen. Michaelle Jean said.
Those who knew him described Lieut. Nuttall as a "superb athlete" who enjoyed cold-water surfing, teaching and working as a disc jockey.
"Andrew shared a passion for many things," said Padre Steve Defer, speaking at the ramp ceremony.
"He loved the outdoors and he loved to surf. The waves at Tofino on Vancouver Island will never be the same."

Drugs and intoxicants are strictly forbidden by the Mohammedans, the Taliban when they took over forced all the farmers to cut down their poppy fields, but when invaded they are now allowed to grow them again, and the soldiers have to actively protect them from the Taliban.
Here is how to solve your stupidity:
1. Turn off the TV.
2. Pick up a (well-written) book.
Until you do this, there is little point in me talking with you.

@OrthodoxDarwinist Omg YOUR SO DUMB!......the people of Afghanistan are being held hostage, basically, by the Taliban and AlQuede taking away freedoms they deserve....the poppy fields are owned by ALQuede you dumbfuck that's how they get all their funding..my cousin is a Canadian Forces soldier that came back 2 weeks ago he said they found farm regularly and destroyed them >.> the government has no reason to give people drugs destroying someone's life means they cant make income to give to them.

@HeadSHOT604
Doesn't make any difference, they're still butchering innocent civilians. The only difference is that they get to protect the poppy farms from being cut down by the Taliban to make sure that the flow of heroin to the Western markets doesn't stop.
