original movie trailer. The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) starring William Holden, Jack Hawkins, Alec Guinness.
IMDB description: After settling his differences with a Japanese PoW camp commander, a British colonel co-operates to oversee his men's construction of a railway bridge for their captors - while oblivious to a plan by the Allies to destroy it.
@WELLBRAN Quite strasnge as when you google River kwai all you get are references to the FILM and not to the reality of the location and what went on there the film's myth far outstrips the reality and this is whats wrong with hollywood and movies they take precident over fact, as in Pearl Harbour movie that was made soem years ago, it is putre fantasy but many think that it is accurate portayal of the event, all very neat and cosy

Also no POW would have killed anyone for wanting to build it or otherwise they had no choice if it were a reality maybe it was on nicholsons part to turn it around to give at least some crumb of moral to show the Jpas that they were tough enough to do it....and live through it. thats all I can guess but my gut reaction is it was just hollywood storyline

@Coganboy I do not know anything about this nicholson if he were a fictional charactor or a real person but either way The Japanese forced them to build a bridge and the track ech side of it and there was nothing you could do but just build it or die and most did die building it, and whether he volunteered or not it does not matter maybe that was just the story of the film. I do not know the reality but the bridge was a small part of the many miles of track laid

@WELLBRAN I take it you haven't seen the film? lol.
Nicholson pretty much volunteered eventually to build that bridge. He took huge PRIDE in building something for the enemy. Look up the movie.
I have tremendous respect for your father. Where was he at?

@Coganboy Its a film so and storyline is okay but in reality no no one would have killed him...why? In fathers camp they wanted to kill the dutch as most were informers to the japanese against the US and Brits and aussies but no one would get killed for just doing what they were told everyone was struggling to stay alive in some way. my father was heavily into sabotage in his job as a riveter in Nagasaki docks, as they all were leave out rivets leave out caulking in decks etc etc

@WELLBRAN: I mean that if that Colonel Nicholson had actually helped out the Japanese to build the bridge like he did in the end, he would've been killed right?

@Coganboy I do not fully understand your question but all I can know for sure is this film is PURE FANTASY anything that this film shows is inaccurate np POW was in a postion to carry out heroic deeds or kill Japanese soldiers and get awaay with it see them line up on parade? THEY ALL HAVE BOOTS ON! a complete joke the film depicts POW's as strong and physically able, another joke. Sorry but this film is pure propaganda. It does more harm than good....in fact no good at all

@WELLBRAN I remember POWs saying that the colonel, if he had done what he had done, then he would have been killed silently in the night. Am I correct?
