  • I have Jack's version, on cassette, it is great; the full sound we love! I will try to get a copy of it put out somehow but I don't have the facilities to upload yet. The blue lyres version I only ever heard once and had recorded it but lost it years ago; I know what you mean by pressing play, worse than that is my party piece: accidentally hitting "record" instead of "play", leaving a nice little gap in an otherwise perfect dub!

  • Yes done that and usually when i was rewinding a fav to hear it over again.Another disaster was a friend taping daniel o donnell over a good dbd tape, and leaving several tapes on public transport in the days of walkmans!!85scampi may have that Payne version.

  • Jack Payne's version of this is the best ever but I've another version on an eclipse record (can't remember who that is at the moment). The Blue Lyres did a great version which I heard on Allan Dell's programme about 20 years ago and am still waiting to hear it again! Anyone got a copy?

  • I dont think i have heard the Payne version, though i can see it would be very good!I used to tape the dance band days but dont recall the blue lyres version-may be one of the times i pressed play instead of record, something i did regularly!!!

I hear no scratch! Great machine you bought.

Got a mail from a fellow in the UK who has the same model as mine (524), so we are not the only lucky guys.

  • anyone have ethel waters singing this?

  • Nightmare scenarios! I remember the first time I ever heard "Just a gigolo" by Jack Hylton's Orch, I recorded the programme (I also recorded the Allan Dell programmes!) and took it on my walkman to work, I had heard it once going into work then someone nicked the walkman with the tape in!

  • Sounds like Stan to me too.

  • I suspect these are old stock British 'Songster' Needles or Laubscher, Pierre.
