Chkdsk and Defrag

http://live.pirillo.com - One of our community members recently attempted to run a defrag on his computer. During the defrag, he received a message that chkdsk wanted to run. He's not so sure what this means, or if he should allow it.

  • CHKDSK has destroyed windows own partition on my hard drive XD

    it should fix a problem with the bootsector on that partition but then it destroyed that partition.

    But well, that windows.... (at least it isnt such softie crap like Mac OSX)

  • i alowed CHKDSK to run one time and the next time i re-started i got signs instead of letters and next time i got the blue screen of death XP but ubuntu could make a backup of the files from windows AFTER blue screen of death :D

  • i like your pc LCD  monitor!!!

  • It takes a 320gb hard drive 4 hours to do a chkdsk scanning for errors and bad sectors and a 40gb hard drive 30 minutes.

    tells me sumthin about chkdsk and fsutil so idk wat else to do now

  • start the computer in safe mode (with command prompt) then run chkdsk

  • When I click 'automatically fix file system errors' I get the message 'windows was unable to complete the disc check.'

    What the heck does that mean?!
