@XIPM3 I don't think that you should do anything that you don't feel comfortable doing. If you think it will put you in an awkward position, there is no reason for you to approach the coffin (unless it is someone close to you & you would like to pay last respects). I've served & sang at plenty funerals, and some people just pass by & look for a few seconds (possibly mentally saying goodbye) or maybe touch the hand. If you are not uncomfortable, you can kiss the hand.

Vladyka Sergey was always a friendly face at our Church (our priest) and he knew my grandperants quite well. He performed the church service and funeral for my mother. He was alway nice to my family, God bless.

as far as i know, upon approaching the cofin, we make a small bow and make the sign of the cross.. for a dead heirarch, we kiss his hand, and make the sign of the cross again..

excuse me, what is traditional way to pay respect at a funeral for just a normal visitor such as myself? like, when i step up to a coffin, what should i do? i was raised athiest so i dont know :/ however i am becoming increasingly interested and curious in russian orthodox faith.
