CNN travels to the site of the first project receiving money from the $787 billion stimulus package, an out-of-the-way bridge in rural Missouri, for a town of 223 people.

Asked about the project, the Mayor of St. Louis, Francis Slay, calls it "an insult to the people of St. Louis."

CNN then asks University of Missouri economist Michael Sykuta whether this project will create around 200 jobs. Sykuta says jobs may be created, but says historic studies show government projects don't generate long-term growth.

  • This is why the media is bs. They raise a fuss whenever a bridge collapses, but when money goes to fix a bridge that is obviously falling apart they call it a waste of money.

  • CNN was trying to bash this project, but, it is funny that the reporter was like "What was that" when the dump truck crossed the bridge and cement fell from it. Idiots...

  • How can you deny building up the mid missouri economy, which is directly related from this bridge, and st. louis gets all orf its resources from, whether it be from waynsville to crocker to tuscumbia. any semi truck going to mid missouri or beyond has to go though highway 17 and 52. ask any trucker who comes throubh missouri, i say thank god! ELDON, MO

  • Im from Tuscumbia mo and not only is that bridge dangerous and needing replaced but they failed to mention that it is also the direct road to Fort Leonard Wood. This bridge is also the same structure as the one that collapsed a few years ago in Minnesota.
