Operation Entebbe was a hostage-rescue mission carried out by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) at Entebbe Airport in Uganda on 4 July 1976.[2] A week earlier, on 27 June, an Air France plane with 248 passengers was hijacked by Palestinian terrorists and supporters and flown to Entebbe, near Kampala, the capital of Uganda. Shortly after landing, all non-Israeli passengers, except one French citizen, were released.

מבצע יונתן או מבצע אנטבה (כינויו הצבאי של המבצע היה כדור הרעם) הוא מבצע שערך צה"ל באוגנדה ב-4 ביולי 1976, במטרה להציל 105 חטופים יהודים, ישראלים ואנשי צוות המטוס, שנחטפו במהלך טיסתם מישראל לצרפת במטוס אייר פרנס בשנת 1976. למרות התבצרותם של החוטפים במדינה עוינת, המבצע הוכתר בהצלחה וכמעט כל החטופים חולצו בשלום. במהלך המבצע נהרג מפקד סיירת מטכ"ל, שהיה מפקד כוח הפריצה במבצע, יונתן נתניהו, ובעקבות זאת נקרא המבצע על שמו.
