Muay Boran (Thai: มวยโบราณ, lit. "ancient boxing") is an umbrella term for the unarmed martial arts of Thailand prior to the introduction of modern equipment and rules. It is the ancestor of modern Muay Thai. The word muay which means boxing comes from the Sanskrit term mavya, while boran or boraan means ancient in Thai. The art is significantly different from its modern descendent. Whereas Muay Thai is often called the "science of eight limbs", muay boran is said to make use of nawa awut which means nine weapons and refers to the hands, legs, elbows, knees and head.

i do MMA but i feel nervous before a fight and i was wondering if it was rude or insulting in anyway if i learned this and performed it in private before a fight

@itssohardtomakeaname I do muay thai, and if your doing mma I dont think they'll let you do it before a fight, I doubt they will find it offensive in any way its just it take like 5 or more minuets to do and I doubt they want to waste time.

@itssohardtomakeaname: as a muay boran practitioner, i'd say its out of place but i can't say it is insulting or rude. the ram muay/ wai khru is not only an exercise in muay thai matches but it is part of the art's ritual. while no harm is intended, i can't guarantee that doing that would not suggest insult to others either, especially muay purists. my advice: if it doesn't belong in MMA, don't do it. i practice other arts and i don't mix purely out of respect for each one.

@itssohardtomakeaname Ram muay is the way to show respect to the teachers and the trainers. Also, in past muay thai was usually fought in front of the king, so ram muay was also to apologize to the King for the brutality in fighting.so i geuss it wont be insulting as long as you do it for your trainers and opp
