@sobefobik You could try Zion Rock and Mountain Guides; have them guide your group or give you a primer. (I'm just lucky to have experienced friends, I don't really know how to get started cold.)

@montareyt Well on Zion's official website it says this is a great starter, and I don't know anyone that even does canyoneering. I hadn't even heard of it till I started doing some research on Zion. So, how does one go about learning how to do this and get experience? You have to start somewhere, and that's hard to do if you don't know anyone that's experienced.

@sobefobik Don't go out without someone experienced. People die in Zion every year, and while you can Google your way to a basic introduction you need practice before leading your own canyon.

I have never done any type of canyoneering, but I'm headed to Zion this summer. I'm not really sure of how the rappeling works, if you tie any knots, what kind of rope to use or what other equipment you need for this one. Can you tell me how that works?
