  • Yeah, the universe "could" be made out of 95% dark matter and energy, and I "could" be the reincarnated love child of Thomas Jefferson.

  • I can't wait for the day the Plasma physicists get as much funding as the Big bangers and when they use their knowledge and intelligence to work together.

Any "scientist" who's not willing to try out a new idea you shouldn't be able to call themselves a scientist at all. Science used to be about discovery.

Observation, leading to theory, tested through experiments and THEN a mathematical equation to verify it. Not the other way around as it is today.

  • There is in fact no evidence what so ever as to the existence of dark matter or energy. We look for it since it would fit the model of the universe at present. But maybe the model is wrong. There are much stronger forces in nature than gravity, for instance electromagnetism. The mathematics of relativity is man-made, to discern nature from math rather than the other way around is just producing the quote "humanum errare est". See sciencedaily "Magnetic Fields Set Stage for Birth of New Stars".

  • @suedeslounge while we physicists have good evidence to suggest that dark energy exists (and thus dark matter does) you have none of being the ... whatever child of Tomas Jefferson...

  • I thought red shift and blue shift were based on the speed and direction objects were moving. The Doppler effect.

  • Thanks much! I have read a lot on this subject, and as far as I understand things, I agree with you. I wish you had more online material on this. People should look into logical fallacies, especially "appeal to authority".

"Plasma physicists get as much funding as the Big bangers"

They could, if they would first provide a model that does not get contradicted by almost every observation out there. Simply picking and choosing the bits that SEEM to fit is not doing science.

  • In fact we don't get much from telescopes, the picture is flat. Then kicks in mathematical dumbness. Let's wait for the BB theory to go, because this is what theories do.

  • Big news on plasma style cosmology. Read article on daily science; Magnetic Fields Set Stage for Birth of New Stars published Nov. 16, 2011

  • @AllwaysInstigating Ok, seeing as none of that has happened yet, any explanation on why it hasn't?

  • @wavyinfinity I more believe in the theory that science was ruined by a sinister communion of "morons, low funding, low levels of education and religious fanatics". I even think I have the proofs... :)

  • velocity-induced redshift are not just a suggestion from faraway galaxies and is not a "discovery" of Hubble. Its physically explainable as a dobbler-shift, similar to the one you would experience with soundwaves when an ambulance drives by with great speed. Just with redshift we are working with lightwaves and not sound waves and the speeds involved is much greater than the speed of a car. You don't even have to study astronomy to know about this nature of light.
