Nice video. Remember MKT 327 from January 1987 when we used it on the Austin & Northwestern (AUNW) along with several other ex-ICG units. The sound of the horn brought back a flood of memories.

Don't get me wrong I TOTALLY LOVED THE MKT!...awesome video & thank you for posting it;-)

No surprise here!..the usual unpainted Ex ICG units!...dnt 4get all the ex Conrail power MKT had running around in their original blue as well as constant BN run through power..seems they ran everything but their own GREEN & YELLOW!

i drove 181 as a dme for 200 ft with an sd 10 (546), and 2 sd 40-2s including the mt rushmore unit, when i was 4 years old!

Everything's changed here when the UP merged with MKT.MKT abandoned the last of there trackage into Saint Louis.MKT had a yard by the TRRA known as Baden Yard.I believe Baden Yard was downgraded and now is a container station.MKT once had trackage rights on the Wabash Kansas City-Decatur up to Hannibal Missouri.MKT also had trackage on the CBQ up to Machens. You can still see some of the remains of the MKT line at Machens. Is there any MKT trackage operated by UP?

some of those katy units i think 185 of them are still in up roster with no evedence of being mkt hey up did the katy cause u problems
-
@railstoruin I talked to my father and the only thing he could tell me is that the units were in storage for a long time near Lake Michigan. The Katy needed power and they were for sale. He said whoever went and looked at them before the purchase, made a comment that they looked like there were stored in the lake rather than near it!

@eb379 You're right, those are former ICG diesels. Perhaps they were sold off as surplus units after the ICG abandoned their Sparta subdivision south of St. Louis in '85?

Look at all of those piggy-back trailers.... -That was Katy's main business at their Baden Yard facility in St. Louis. Both The Katy and The Rock Island were always silent residents of St. Louis. I also really like that Milwaukee Road trailer just before the caboose! This is a priceless video. -Thanks for posting!

Great video! To the veiwer who said those were red engines, they were not. They were ex ICG units, aquired by the Katy, and were oarnge and white. They just plastered MKT on the side of them and covered up the old logos. The Katy didn't paint them because of the inevitable buyout. I remeber seeing them in north St. Louis as my father worked at a yard there. They were dirty!!
What does MKT mean?
