First run of our clubs reccently restored 3 cylinder lister. Hope to exhibit it at a few shows this year. Once again I had an excuse for not being the "crank starter" because someone had to get a record it and show it on youtube[no one else there has a camcorder]. Filmed at the Whangarei Stationary Engine Club Heritage Park, Whangarei NZ

  • Thats running on all cyls fine

  • @05clenharth yea well some people dont seem to have a clue, I mean they weren't actually there when we got her restored and running. You can't wrong a bunch of old guys who have been in this club and restoring these types of engines for 25 years.

  • No it's not running good, you have a dead or week cylinder. Funny how many people say "It runs good" with out listening / knowing what is going on

  • The engine was stripped completely down and put back together. No it only sounds like that because it is its first run. All the cylinders are perfectly fine, our clubs diesel expert has decleared all cylinders are running fine.

  • The only problem with this is the rack on the governor which requires a bit of tweaking.

  • I worked on a ship that had lifeboats propelled by these engines. They had a spring-loaded starting system that would only work on a cold start if the outside temp was above 65 degrees F. It took some serious cranking by a very large man to get them started most of the time and I wondered just how usefull they were in a lifesaving appliance on a ship that spent most of it's life operating in cold climates. Westerbeke 4 cylinders with hydraulic starters were much more reliable.

  • can you throttle a lister or are they just set to run at 650 RPM (650 for a 6/1 at least) and no control over RPM?

  • I had this engine in my lifeboat, and this one is running without one cylinder for sure. Awesome engines you can really rely on!!

  • @engineteen What series is this? SR, ST? Did you get the rack adjusted? I worked on the SR and ST series Listers for many years.

  • I think it is the injector or fuel pump timing.
